Sculptra® – Natural Collagen Stimulation
Gradual, natural-looking rejuvenation through collagen stimulation
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Rather than acting as a traditional dermal filler, it works by stimulating your body's own collagen production, helping to restore facial volume, improve skin quality, and create a natural, refreshed appearance over time.
How Does It Work?
As we age, collagen levels decline, leading to volume loss, skin laxity, and deeper lines. Sculptra works beneath the skin to gradually stimulate new collagen production. Results develop progressively over several weeks and continue to improve after each treatment, giving a subtle, natural-looking rejuvenation.
When Will I See Results?
Although you may notice some fullness immediately after treatment due to the sterile water used to prepare the product, this temporary effect settles within a few days. Your own collagen production then gradually increases, with visible improvements typically appearing from 6–12 weeks after treatment and continuing to improve over the following months.
How Many Treatments Are Recommended?
Most patients benefit from:
- 2–3 treatment sessions
- Treatments are usually spaced 6–8 weeks apart
- The exact number depends on your age, collagen loss, and desired outcome
Results can last up to 2 years or longer in many patients, with maintenance treatments recommended when needed.
Who Is Suitable?
Sculptra is ideal for patients who:
- Have age-related volume loss
- Want gradual, natural-looking rejuvenation
- Notice skin laxity or thinning skin
- Would like to improve facial contours without looking overfilled
- Are willing to wait for collagen to develop over time rather than expecting immediate results
It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for those with active skin infections, or certain medical conditions. A full consultation with Olivia is essential to determine suitability.
What Is The Treatment Like?
Your treatment begins with a thorough consultation and facial assessment. The area is cleansed and marked before Sculptra is injected using a fine needle or cannula. Local anaesthetic is mixed with the product to improve comfort.
Treatment usually takes 30–45 minutes. Mild swelling is common immediately afterwards, but this settles within a few days. As the initial swelling subsides, the true collagen-building process begins.
Aftercare
For the best results:
- Follow the 5-5-5 rule: Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Avoid excessive heat (saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs) and prolonged sun exposure for 24–48 hours
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours, where possible
- Keep the skin clean and avoid makeup for around 12 hours
- Stay well hydrated
Mild tenderness, swelling, bruising, or small lumps can occur and usually settle naturally.
